Taiwan Food with a Modern Twist: 'Kitchen Remix' on TaiwanPlus
TAIPEI – Taiwan Food — lip-smacking and world famous — and Taiwan Recipes seen through a modern lens will be the central focus, beginning June 12, 2023, in episodes of “Kitchen Remix” that will be released weekly on the TaiwanPlus YouTube channel, website, and app.
With the popularity and demand for Taiwanese Food growing exponentially worldwide — is the constant and growing China-Taiwan tensions partly responsible for that or is that taking a very narrow view? — TaiwanPlus has decided to release “Kitchen Remix,” an original cooking show that explores traditional Taiwan Food — Taiwanese recipes and best Taiwan cuisine — through a modern lens.
The program, hosted by acclaimed novelist and culinary writer Clarissa Wei and comedian-influencer Brandon O’Neal, guides viewers through the origins and preparation of ten traditional but iconic Taiwanese meals with a modern, light-hearted twist.
Taiwan Food — ‘West has a Limited Understanding of Taiwanese Cuisine’
Clarissa Wei claims that although Taiwanese Fried Chicken and Bubble Tea are common in most major cities, the majority in the West has a limited understanding of Taiwanese cuisine.
Wei said: “Through ‘Kitchen Remix,’ we’re able to showcase Taiwanese cooking as something more than just a subset of Chinese cuisine.”
For Kitchen Recipe hunters, what is most exciting to know is that Clarissa Wei will be releasing a highly anticipated cookbook titled “Made in Taiwan” later this year.
“We want to give our audience an opportunity to understand the rich culinary heritage of Taiwan,” Wei said.

'Kitchen Remix' on TaiwanPlus — What to Expect
The Taiwanese American identities of Wei and O’Neal, as well as TaiwanPlus’s cross-cultural goal, are reflected in “Kitchen Remix,” which also explores ethnic fusion and translation.
Wei discusses the folklore around the traditional Taiwanese Meatballs, or Bawan, in one episode, while O’Neal makes a Latin-inspired variation using birria slow cooked meat.
“TaiwanPlus is the perfect platform to share stories that are entirely new to English-speaking audiences, while demonstrating the versatility of the nation’s flavors for people all over the world,” said TaiwanPlus CEO Michael Yu.
The program is produced by Deep Flow Media, known for their work on renowned shows like Vice News, CBS’s “60 minutes,” and Vox, and marks an ongoing collaboration between the production house and TaiwanPlus.
